DJ Selva is one of the most sought after Afro-Latin DJs and Emcees in Asia. Reputed as the prodigal “crowd-pleaser”, his early training in classical music from the age of 6 and experience as a DJ in R&B dance clubs from the tender age of 17 has helped him gain an invaluable skill in the art of music-mixing and crowd-pleasing. Coupled with outstanding work ethic, DJ Selva has established himself as one of the biggest names in the Asian Afro-Latin industry. He is regularly invited to share his music at some of the biggest festivals and congresses, equally renowned for his mixes in Kizomba as he is in Salsa, Bachata & Zouk.
DJ Selva’s calling as an Afro-Latin DJ commenced with Monday Night Salsa at Shivz Grill in Kuala Lumpur in early 2011. His brand of energetic and hard hitting Cuban salsa and sensual bachata became a huge hit with the salsa faithful in Kuala Lumpur. He soon found himself on the decks at many other Afro-Latin nights. Some of his gigs include Shivz Grill, G Point (formerly Salsa Havana), The Water Place at Heritage Row, Carne y Vino Latin Bar & Grill in Changkat Bukit Bintang (where he was the resident DJ), Loco, Havana Club, Yoko’s, Modesto’s Capsquare, Paradox Art Café, Braveheart, Chandelier, Zero 11, Interlude, Star Café TTDI and many other private & corporate functions as DJ & emcee. He has also been invited to DJ at various gigs in neighbouring Singapore like Cuba Libre, The Studio and Union Square @ The Amara. He is currently the resident DJ of the largest weekly Afro-Latin party in Malaysia, Afro-Latin Social Fridays at Hugos by Modestos.
DJ Selva was given due recognition as a world-class Afro-Latin DJ when he was invited to be the resident DJ at the World Bachata Festival 2012 in Kuala Lumpur. He has since been invited to numerous events alongside some of the best Latin DJs in the region in many different countries including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Phillipines, Vietnam, India, East Timor & Japan.
DJ Selva’s introduction to Kizomba in 2011 and many years of practice thereafter has lead to his status as one of the most popular Kizomba DJs in Asia. To his credit, he has been invited to DJ at many events featuring some of the biggest artistes in world Kizomba including Kwenda Lima, Albir, Sara Lopez, Sara Panero, Laurent & Adeline, Felicien & Isabelle, Helio Santos, Ronie Saleh, Enah & Carolina, etc.
The different genres of music he spins include Salsa, Kizomba, Semba, Afrohouse, Bachata, Son Cubano, Merengue, Reggaeton, Salsaton, Zouk, Cha Cha, West Coast Swing, R&B, Hip Hop, Retro and Top 40’s hits.
DJ Selva has performed in more than 38 salsa and latin festivals all over the region since 2015, including dance events in Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, India, and Philippines.
