I was having a quiet dinner after class last night when my phone rang. It was a landline number that I didn’t recognise.

Dreading that it was one of those many cold calls made by a bank (and there are so many of those nowadays), I answered. I usually do, because you never know when the bank is calling about a serious matter, like fraud that was detected. Or maybe they just want to give you money. Hey, one can hope.

The lady on the other end explained that she was calling from Tropicana City Mall, and that I had won a consolation prize in a lucky draw!

…. lucky draw? I don’t even remember taking part in one!

I was pretty excited! I rarely win lucky draws! Or when I do, they are usually not worth mentioning (except for this one time I won an amazing autographed glove by some of the MMA greats).

I asked her what I won, and I heard her say something like “voucher by Vivo”. I had no idea what exactly that was about (my line was not very clear), but I caught the word “Vivo”. I was hoping that it would be a voucher that would offset a big amount for a Vivo fitness watch, because I was thinking of getting a new fitness watch (I had sold off my old one because the heart strap was giving me chafing problems).

So I made arrangements to drop by Tropicana City Mall after my morning dance classes.

After thinking about it, I remembered that sometime last year I had bought something from one of the sports shops in Tropicana City Mall. I vaguely recall that because the amount I had paid was in the hundreds, the shop attendant advised me to go to the information counter because I would be eligible for the lucky draw. To be honest, I had completely forgotten that I had even filled up a form for the lucky draw. The only thing I remember was that they had given me a can of Pu Er tea (which was really nice) and a free mooncake (which was not as nice). I only remember these items because I consumed them at home.

WOOHOO! PRIZE COLLECTION

So I showed up at the information counter at Tropicana City Mall about 11.40am, but no one was there. Apparently there was only one person on duty who had gone to the washroom. At least, that was what the security guard told me. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I asked the guard if the person had gone to the washroom or to lunch. He couldn’t really answer me, so I decided to just stay until someone came back. Someone finally showed up about noon.

After hearing I was here to collect the prize, he made a few calls (which wasn’t answered after about the third try) and then he advised me to go down to the management office.

I met the person in charge there who gave me a letter to sign and she handed me a paper bag neatly packed with…. a new handphone, complete with a screen protector and a lovely blue cover!

I was so surprised. I said I thought I won a voucher, and she told me that they won’t give out vouchers, they would give out proper prizes for the lucky draw. (like duh, right?) I had obviously misheard the lady on the phone the night before. But this prize is way better than any voucher!

Unfortunately no one from the top management was there in the office so she said that she couldn’t take a photo of someone handing me the prize. I said it’s okay, and I suggested she take the photo with me instead.

So we took photos in front of the sign with their logo on it. However as per her request, I have not put her name or her photo here.

Actually, I knew we were going to take photos. Yet true to my blurcase form… I didn’t get dressed up. I came straight from dance class, so that’s why my hair is a mess and I’m in slippers =.=”

Thank you Tropicana City Mall for the lucky draw prize!

By the way, a note… if anyone is thinking of rummaging through my handbag for this phone, I should let you know this phone is only worth RM500, so it doesn’t match an iPhone or a Samsung Note.

And… I am not getting a Garmin Vivo watch after all. 🙁

Having said that, I am still pretty excited and grateful! Even though it’s just a consolation prize, but it’s quite a valuable, lovely one! It’s a Vivo Y22, with pretty decent specs.

I have no idea what the grand prize but it must be a really big one…

Thank you so much to Tropicana City Mall / Capitaland! Yes, lucky draws are real and we can really win real items!
